Mutilated Mohawk Media is back with another killer interview. This time, a guitar shredding legend coming from the Upside Down. Remember the iconic scene from Stranger Things where Eddie Munson absolutely shreds? Well we got to interview the actor and stunt double who did that scene. Not only is he known for doubling Eddie Munson, but he has also shredded with the likes of Steel Panther. His guitar skills are out of this world. The absolutely talented Aidan Fisher sat down with us and gave us a killer interview on his guitar playing, Stranger Things, and all sorts of other wonderful things.
Shredding With Legends
Tell us about yourself.
My name is Aidan Fisher. I’m an actor and a musician from Atlanta, Georgia. You may have seen my viral video of me playing with Steel Panther when I was eleven years old. I played eruption by Eddie Van Halen. Or, you may have caught me in the new Stranger Things season 4 playing Master of Puppets, the guitar solo. The infamous Eddie Munson scene. Season 4 Episode 9.
What are your three favorite bands of all time?
Van Halen, Guns n’ Roses, and Steel Panther.
What motivated you to pick up the guitar and play?
Well, my dad showed me a lot of good music as a kid. I started taking guitar lessons when I was around seven, probably. What really drove me to pursue music and guitar specifically was when I went to a Guns n’ Roses concert when I was 10 years old in Kansas City, Missouri. I was in the front row with my dad. Axl Rose saw me in the front row and brought me onstage and I bowed with the band for the last song, Paradise City. So that really inspired me to take it to another level. For the whole summer after that show I didn’t stop playing guitar at all. I would play every day. I would watch YouTube videos to learn how to play stuff like Eruption by Van Halen which led to the Steel Panther thing happening.
What are some of your favorite horror movies?
I like John Carpenter’s The Thing. Insidious. The last one, hmm, I’m gonna go ahead and say Friday The 13th. I’m going to say all of them. There’s like so many good movies with Friday The 13th and I wouldn’t know which one to pick. They are all good.
Who do you think would win in a fight, Leatherface or Michael Myers?
Michael Myers because Leatherface, uh, can I cuss in this?
Yeah it’s my website.
Oh, okay, Leatherface seems like a bit of a bitch compared to Michael Myers. He’s fat and kind of slower. Michael Myers always comes back.
Life In The Upside Down
What was the audition process like for Stranger Things?
It was pretty simple, I didn’t really audition. I was doing a lot of background acting last year, which is like being an extra in films and stuff like that. I was in Atlanta and there was a casting company that posts things on different Facebook groups for different background roles. One of these Facebook groups posted something about how they were looking for a guitar player that could shred on guitar. That’s pretty much how I found this. I applied for it and I got it.
Do you think horror is in a golden age, or do you think it’s grown stale, and why?
I wouldn’t say we are in a golden age. I don’t know if we are in a stale zone. I mean there hasn’t really been a lot of horror stuff lately, at least that’s what it seems like. I don’t know why. I mean Jordan Peele just put out Nope. I actually never saw it but I heard it wasn’t that good. I guess we are in kind of a stale spot to be honest, there’s not really anything that I’ve seen.
For people that want to do what you do, shred on guitar and play in movies, what sort of inspiration do you have for them?
Work hard. Make opperituites for yourself. You have to have a passion for it. Put all those things together and you’ll do alright.
